About Us

Rose Lane Therapy Practice

Hi, I'm Joanne and I'm the owner of Rose Lane Therapy.

I've been working with children for over 11 years, and from the very beginning I've been fascinated by the power of play. During my degree in Psychology and Early Years development, I learned how play helps children's brains grow and thrive.

Play strengthens neural connections, builds self-regulation skills and supports healthy development through exploration.

My passion for play and  children's well-being led me to train as a Child Therapist at the Academy of Play and Child Psychotherapy. Since qualifying in 2021, I have been working closely with primary schools in the Sefton area to support children and families facing emotional, behavioural, social and psychological challenges.

Our Approach

Our approach is holistic, child- centred, and predominantly non-directive. We believe every child has an innate ability to grow, flourish and begin the path to healing, when given the right support. In Rose Lane Therapy, play becomes their language, a way for them to naturally express their feelings, process experiences and make sense of the world, with a trained therapist. By offering a safe, non-judgmental, and nurturing space, built on empathy and trust, we aim to help children discover their strengths and move towards greater self-belief, resilience and well-being.

The therapist acts as a guide and mirror, helping the child become aware of their feelings and actions through the play experience.

Types of Therapy offered

With child-centred  therapy, the child chooses which approach best fits them.

Play Therapy

Play Therapy is for ages 3-11 and uses a variety of different play and art tools to choose from every session. These include, puppets, role play, movement toys, musical instruments, sand tray, small world figures, dolls house, books, clay and art supplies. Play becomes the window into their inner world.

Creative arts therapy

Creative arts therapy is for those children, potentially older children, who don't connect with the word 'play'. Their main tool would be the art supplies, in which they would use the resources in the room to self-regulate and process their emotions.

Children's therapeutic counselling

Children's therapeutic counselling is our umbrella term for the different ways we support children's emotional well-being. Some families may prefer a more directive approach, therefore if deemed necessary, we may begin with more directive activities,  to help the child feel more comfortable and engaged. Over time, play will still be the main tool in our room.
